Department of Psychiatry
Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the study and treatment of mental disorders-which includes various affective, behavioural, cognitive and perceptual disorders. It literally means the 'medical treatment of the mind'. Psychiatry problems arise due to the unstable state of mind. People suffering from this problem will often display a variety of physical symptoms which may even lead to depression. The most common physical symptoms are headaches, vague muscle pains and bowel complaints which are most often the sole indicators of depression. Sometimes depressed patients may be afraid to say that they are depressed and deny the diagnosis of depression. Such individuals need continued support and the diagnosis and treatment of a psychiatrist.
